By law any person, business or undertaking that employs five or more people must have a written Health and Safety Policy.
It is the systematic process of identifying hazards and evaluating any associated risks within a workplace, adopting safeguards to control the risk, ensuring no harm can arise.
All employers have a duty to ensure employees are competent and trained to carry out the work they undertake. Training is essential to reduce accidents and incidents especially when new processes, changes to working methods, new machinery or new substances are in use.

- Any dangerous incident, whether it involves injury or not (Contact with overhead lines, collapse of scaffold, failure of lifting gear etc).
